I didn't want to be a photographer.
Well, I did.
I wanted to go to school in Miami FL. I was going to major in photography. I was going to photograph models and celebrities and my images would be on the covers of magazines.
But the poor choices I had made in High school forced me to end my education early. So in 2011 I dropped out of High School to work in the photo lab at Walmart. (at least it was photography related!) But as most of us know, working in retail can be a nightmare sometimes. I wanted out ASAP.
In December of 2012 I received my GED and I began working as a Pre-K teacher. I love working with kids and I even got my CDA for teaching. I taught until after I had my daughter, in 2019. At that point I had decided to become a stay at home mom.
My partner supported this decision and his father had gifted me a camera after my son was born so I started taking more and more pictures with my time off.
"Why don't you try portrait photography?" My partner's father, Bruce suggested.
It had been years since I had thought about photography.
In 2013 I had the opportunity to attend school in Miami for photography but my boyfriend at the time insisted I not go. So I didn't and that was that.
I made so many excuses to my partner's father as to why I could never be a photographer. "I can't direct people!", "How do I pose?", "What about lighting?"
Bruce bought me a book for every protest. I watched Youtube tutorials and took courses. And finally, in August 2021 I opened my business, Strawberry Moon Portraits.
At first, I was open to EVERYTHING. I did families, engagements, maternity, seniors, families and I even photographed my first wedding! It took me about a year before I found what I did and didn't like photographing.
I still love working with kids so families and Schools are a must! (schools are my favorite.)
Building a concept to creatively express yourself is also something I absolutely love. That is why seniors are one of my favorite subjects.
Currently I am based in Knox County, Ohio but I love to travel.
